Debunk the myths around intuitive eating with Smurfit Nutrition Studio.

You may have heard the term intuitive eating floating around the internet but what exactly does it mean?

It's almost like the opposite of traditional diets - there are no guidelines around what exactly you should eat and when you should eat it. Rather, intuitive eating asks that you get in touch with your body cues and honour your hunger. Here's our top tips for intuitive eating.

1. Stop thinking about it like a ‘diet’ diet mentalities often relate to restriction and deprivation, intuitive eating recognises hunger cues and honours the bodies signals.

2. Eat when you feel hungry and stop eating when you’re full. This sounds so obvious but it’s easier said than done.

3. Try and make peace with your food, no food is off limits and you shouldn’t feel guilty about eating certain foods.

4. Eat mindfully! Try and take time to enjoy your food, don’t rush your meals. Studies show that people who eat while doing something else are more likely to eat more, so enjoy your food and savour the experience.

5. Try not to associate your feelings with food. It’s often joked about, that we ‘eat our feelings,’ however, intuitive eating practices recommend that we find alternative ways to deal with emotion, be it exercise or discussing with friends.
